make xconfig

I tried running make xconfig  

The error I get is that somehow it cannot find -lqt.

I have looked at QDIR and it points to /usr/lib64/qt-3.3
In the lib directory I see libqt-mt.so.3.3.4 and several symbolic links to
it.

What is the solution as I have installed all the packages that I think are
needed?

I am running latest kernel 2.6.10_FC3 on an Athlon 64 based PC.  It is
X86_64 architecture.
