alternatives command

I am following along Stanton Finley's How-To for FC3 and he uses a command 
"alternatives".  When using this from the command line I get:

 -bash: alernatives: command not found

What do I need for this command?  Is there a newer command or is there 
something I need to install/update in order to have this command available?
