In Fedora the kernel_version.bz2 is at /usr/src/redhat/SOURCES

1 - copy this file to /usr/src
2 - go to /usr/src and execute "tar -xvjv kernel_version.bz2" - wait few
minutes
3 - make a link "ln -sf linux.2.6.... linux"
4 - execute "make gconfig" or "make menuconfig"
5 - select the sata drivers and scsi drivers you need
6 - salve and exit
7 - execute "make" - wait few hours
8 - execuce "make modules_install"
9 - execute "make install"

Your new kernel is ready to use and test
