Yum -clean all........is that a bad thing?

Out of curiosity, I did an APT-GET CLEAN and it processed and went back 
to a prompt with no messages or other indications at all.  I also did a 
YUM CLEAN and got the following:

Gathering header information file(s) from server(s)
Server - Fedora Linux 2 - i386 - core
Server - Fedora Linux 2 - i386 - freshrpms
Server - Fedora Linux 2 - i386 - updates
Finding updated packages
Cleaning packages and old headers

So that looks like it also updates at the same time.

However, I tend to use the program SYNAPTIC which is a gui front-end 
that I run under KDE.  It lets me sort and search and gives 
descriptions, etc.  It also tells me how much memory it will need to 
install and how long it will take.  With a 56k modem that is important 
for me.

Just do an
apt-get install synaptic
