on my Toshiba M40 I had lots of trouble with netcard, Marvel Yukon 2.
Problem ended up being that ohci1394 crashes, disabling irq11 at all.
irq11 is used by Yukon. so no net. but I oversaw it, thinking it was
benign.

It could even be a nasty interference among the many device
sharing irq11:

            CPU0
   0: 405752 XT-PIC timer
   1: 6824 XT-PIC i8042
   2: 0 XT-PIC cascade
   5: 0 XT-PIC Intel ICH6 Modem
   6: 3 XT-PIC ohci1394
   8: 1 XT-PIC rtc
   9: 13 XT-PIC acpi
  10: 35582 XT-PIC Intel ICH6, ehci_hcd:usb1, uhci_hcd:usb2
  11: 3712 XT-PIC uhci_hcd:usb3, uhci_hcd:usb4, uhci_hcd:usb5, yenta, sky2

  15: 26495 XT-PIC ide1
NMI: 0

so, on kernel-2.6.14-1.1644_FC4, Pentium M 2GHz, 1GB RAM, I get:

booting with:
#alias ieee1394-controller ohci1394
in /etc/modprobe.conf, it's magically all ok. no kernel msg reporting
problems.

but, why the hell ohci on irq6 is disturbing devices on irq11 ??
