You dont want to forward to your local X session. Dont do that ;)

set up your environment

# export DISPLAY=:0

- If your X server is up,
- and no one is logged in.

Which display mananger is running (gdm, xdm ,kdm) ?


You need access to the X session cookie.

Read man Xsecurity and man xauth

It should be in your .Xauthority file ...

Coping as root is enough.

something like

# cp /etc/X11/xdm/......MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 $HOME/.Xauthority

Its to long ago to be exact. Just look into man pages.
