Even if his statement is "patently ridiculous", who made you the
arbiter of this forum?

Probably not. But I suggest that rather than try to control other
people's behavior, you try limiting your exercise of authority
to your own behavior.

I suggest that you simply state that you are not going to
participate in the thread any longer, and why, and leave it at that.

Note that these are only suggestions, and not orders.
