Kernel update problems!

Hello again,

I have a problem with kernel-updates coming with yum. 
Every kernel "higher" than 'kernel-2.6.9-1.678_FC3' that is installed by 'yum 
update' boots fine until gdm starts. 
But KDE (my standard DE) doesn´t start any more. After loggin in, there is 
just a screen in standard-color, no splash screen, no warning message.

Has anyone made the same experience or - even better - a solution for this 
problem?
