/etc/hosts file must be there.
"dhcppc1" is a host which gets his IP by a DHCP server? Run
"system-config-network" and configure it porperly.

http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/linux/RHL-9-Manual/install-guide/s1-netconfig.html

Either set the hostname manually or let it set automatically by the DHCP
server. /etc/hosts has following format:

$ cat /etc/hosts

# Do not remove the following line, or various programs
# that require network functionality will fail.
127.0.0.1               localhost.localdomain localhost
192.168.0.1             dhcppc1.dhcp.net dhcppc1
