I use gdm to log into fluxbox. I did find
~/.gnome/application-info/user.applications:

  # This file is automatically generated by gnome-vfs application registry
  # Do NOT edit by hand
  # Generated: Fri Sep 17 10:24:15 2004

  Firefox
          requires_terminal=false
          command=/usr/local/firefox/firefox
          can_open_multiple_files=false
          supported_uri_schemes=http,https,ftp,gopher,chrome,file
          expects_uris=true
          name=Mozilla Firefox
          mime_types=application/xhtml+xml,text/html

I changed "command=/usr/bin/firefox" and logged back in, but it didn't
solve the problem.
