What is your HDD model? Does it have 8Mb cache (mine has - ST3200822A) and I
have the following line in /etc/rc.local

hdparm -W0 -u1 -c1 -a 8192 /dev/hde

My HDD in question is /dev/hde. The parameter -W0 disables the cached
writebacks which linux kernel seems to have problem with (even upto version
2.6.10-1.737_FC3).

Hope that helps.
