Broken crontab/anacron

Looks like it's running.
[root at mythtv ~]# ps aux | grep cron
root 20854 0.0 0.0 5116 696 ? Ss 07:40 0:00 crond

I removed them in case they were somehow causing the problem. The paths
were correct, the files were in /root.
Yet they won't run when they're in there. Is there any way to see any
debug or realtime feedback from cron?
