Your system can probably do higher resolution than 800x600 (unless you
have a machine like a subnotebook or an old monitor). You might try
running "system-config-display" and changing the resolution to something
higher (you may have to lower the number of colors on the display).

On the other hand, if you really want to run at 800x600, you might find
some programs difficult to use with Metacity and Gnome (the FC3 default).
You can move a window around by holding alt and dragging the window with
the left mouse button, but unless things have changed in Metacity since
Fedora Core 1 (the last time I used Gnome much), you will be unable to
drag the window border off the top edge of the screen, which is what
you'll need to do to access some buttons on troublesome large preferences
dialogs.

Gaim's preferences dialog, in particular, drove me nuts on my Thinkpad X20
(800x600 screen - it's the Celeron version of the notebook) using Fedora
Core 1. I finally just switched to XFCE4 (where you CAN drag a window's
title bar off the top of the screen and access some of those troublesome
buttons. KDE might also handle this situation better, but since I don't
install KDE here, I don't know. :)
