Rhythmbox sound skips when launching other programs or checking mail

As a newbie, I suggest whereis:

$ whereis lsmod
lsmod: /sbin/lsmod /usr/share/man/man8/lsmod.8.gz

"/sbin" means that they think that lsmod is mainly for root to use, but,
like many other such commands, it seems to work anyway.
