FC4: choppy sound - seems to be ESD?

It's definitely not an echo here, and it's definitely ESD. OSS works
fine.

I tried killing ESD and starting it with various different options. esd
-b fixed the problem (it runs the server in 8 bit sound mode). Now I
just need to figure out how to make this the default...
