nvidia dual DVI out - crash

Hi,
I've got an issue with my nvidia 6600GT (PCIe) on FC4.
I run it using two TFT monitors which I used to drive using VGA output and
that worked well using the two monitors. Now I've switched to DVI output/
This works, but only if I do the following :
1) start PC with a configuration for driver nv (xorg driver)
2) copy my xorg.conf for the nvidia driver back to xorg.conf
3) restart X
If I just put my xorg.conf in place the PC will hang as soon as X starts
(remote login not available anymore, just reset is left).
The above strange sequence works stable.
I've tried the 7174 and 7664 nvidia driver, both with the same result.
Anyone knows why this crash may occur ?
