There is also a software called palantir, have a look:
http://www.fastpath.it/products/palantir/
It comes with full documentation, FAQ, active mailing-list and
development, demos, configuration examples, etc. 
It supports v4l devices such as webcams and TV-cards. 
It can work both as a client and as a streaming server.
I've tried it in several times in the client side, just for fun, and ...
simply it works easily, efficiently in my FC3.
