red-hat alert icon

Hi,
After I upgraded from fc2 to fc3 the rhn-applet indicating the 
availability of updates was gone. Up2date works fine using the commandline.
The rpm is installed:
# rpm -q rhn-applet
rhn-applet-2.1.16-1

When I issue rhn-applet-gui nothing happens.
Same with applications-system tools-Red Hat network alert icon
Removing the rpm and installing it again made did not change anything.
For gyum-applet: same story.
What do I have to do to get the icon back?
