Which is why I always recommend an EXTERNAL SERIAL modem. Someone else
recommended, back near the beginning of the thread, Multi-Tech modems.
I've got one of their industrial strength models (steel case, one line
LED display on front panel, buttons for programming it, solid as a rock)
that I got for 40 bucks on ebay around 3 years ago. Normally it's around
$379 or threabouts. but almost any external serial will work and they
are certainly less grief than what you're experiencing trying to get
your USB modem going.
