You need to install the module appropriate for your kernel.
yum install kernel-module-madwifi-`uname -r`
Once that is installed (and that may be all you need) you can then
yum install madwifi
-=-
Only the kernel module is needed though to use an atheros wifi card.
I haven't tested recently - but in the past, I've also had manually put
alias ath0 ath_pci
into /etc/modprobe.conf
