Sound Card Not Working on Compaq Presario 2201 Laptop

I am afraid I can't help you with those error messages (maybe someone
else more knowledgeable can help you with that), but I can help you
find the Alsa mixer (which you will need to know anyway):
In FC4 under Gnome the ALSA mixer is under the menu:
Applications -> Sound & Video -> Volume Control
The get the sound to work on my system I had to do the following
in the Alsa Mixer:
Edit->Preferences
tick "External Amplifier"
Then go to the "Switches" tab in the alsa mixer and
tick "External Amplifier"
Though note that I had sound coming through the headphones before, so this was
just to get it through the speakers. If you don't get sound through the
headphone you're having a different problem.
