A really clean text editor

Try the following:
    vi for the dihard old time UNIX fanatic
          it is a GREAT editor but has a learning curve and most people
          don't get past the simplest editing tools so that they use the
          fancy stuff that vi can do
    emacs
          probably the most powerful CLEAN editor on any system.  It
          will not put anything into a file that you do not tell it to.
