The recorder is mounted - much discussion on the list, which you can find in 
the archives.  You must umount the drive before k3b can record to it.  You 
may or may not be able to do that from a desktop icon (I can, some can't, so 
it may depend on other things) or you may have to do it from a root console:
umount /dev/hdc
