odd cdrom issue in FC4

i have a machine that has a cd drive and a burner. i use the cd drive
/media/cdrom to play cd's in. lately, however, i can't seem to eject the
 cds from the drive. i check and they are not mounted. i even try
issuing the 'eject' command but get nothing.

is this a known issue?
