force FC6 kernel into single-processor mode?

I'm having trouble getting my ralink wireless card to work with FC6 --
at the moment I'm running with an old FC5 kernel.

With FC5 I only ever got the rt61 module to work with single-processor
kernels, but with FC6 this is not an option.  Is there a kernel
argument that will force FC6 kernels to single-processor?
(I'm guessing this is obvious, but I haven't been able to find it.)
