sound not working any more on FC5 (w/ kernel 2.6.17-1.2145_FC5smp)

Dear list,

Sound on my Dell Precision 650 dual processor has stopped working since at
least last week (after sround the new kernel install). I tried system-config
soundcard which opens up with the following message:

cat: /etc/asound.conf: No such file or directory

Any suggestions?
