Tks for your comment.

The floppys have been standing there for years.  I also doubt their
quality gone already.

Also ran
$ fdformat /dev/fd0H1440
/dev/fd0H1440: No such file or directory

# fdformat /dev/fd0H1440
/dev/fd0H1440: No such file or directory
