For what it's worth, it's relatively painless to open RPM files in an
archive handling program, like file roller, and just copy out the one
file you want to get from the original packages.  That'd work fairly
easily for a program like Samba, but not for any RPM that dynamically
created a configuration file during the installation process.

... Just in case this sort of thing crops up again.
