Lost anti-aliasing

Go to System > Preferences > Fonts.  Check the font rendering
and smoothing options.

Note that there have been several font-related threads on this list
over the past week; which you may want to search.  Also,I see
awefully bad kerning if I try to set smoothing to anything better
than level 1 (slight).
