udev hangs at startup; how to debug?

Neil,

Add -x to the #!/bin/bash line in /sbin/start_udev.  That will spew tons 
of info to the console.  It might give you some indication where 
start_udev is hanging.

Give the list some more info about the computer, motherboard, disk, etc.
