I had a similar problem. 

rpm -q --qf '%{name}-%{version}-%{release}.%{arch}\n' python python-devel

Showed

python-2.4.3-18.fc6.x86_64
python-2.4.4-1.fc6.x86_64
python-devel-2.4.3-18.fc6.i386
python-devel-2.4.3-18.fc6.x86_64

Notice the lone 2.4.4 package in this list.  I ended up removing the 
python-2.4.4-1.fc6.x86_64 package and then the update updated all 
packages to version 2.4.4 without any complaint.
