I found the fix on one of the linux forums... just move this file, /usr/share/mimelnk/application/octet-stream.desktop. to octet-stream.desktop.bak I don't have a clue what it is for, but it ain't doing what it was doing before, which was being a bloody nuisance. My stress level is reduced considerably, and you all can come out now. Ric
