I use qpxtool (http://qpxtool.sourceforge.net/) to verify CD's and
DVD's. This works with plextor and a few other drives only.

The program generates a report of the number of correctable errors
while the whole disk is read.

This will give you an estimate of the quality of the media,
the burner, and how the media and burner works together.
