User setup issues

Hi, I have a user problem.

2 users work fine, but one is unable to open images, pdf files etc.

This user gets errors stating:

The filename "Screenshot.png" indicates that this file is of type "png
document". The contents of the file indicate that the file is of type
"PNG image". If you open this file, the file might present a security
risk to your system.

This hapens for all images, pdf files etc.  Documents handled by Open
Office work fine, as do text files.

is there a mime type file for each user or a system wide one?  I would
have thought if it works for one it would work for all users.
