It used to embarrass the Hell outa me that I couldn't get the Ex's
printer to work at all. Worked fine from Windows. I worked in Tech
Support at RedHat back in 1999-2000, so I took the whole thing to work.
Everyone pounded on it. One guy cranked up Emacs even, poured all over
the system. Finally in a desperate move... I rpm -e samba
Worked like a charm. Damn printer fired up and there must have been 50
documents in the que. Samba wasn't configured properly or something, but
it held onto the printer like a bulldog. Desperate times call for
desperate measures and all that. There is no reason that cups shouldn't
work right outa the bag. Something has the printer in thrall. Suspect
samba. Copy your config files to a safe place first though. If it works,
you got it. If that doesn't work then- yum install samba. That was my
experience. Ric
