Alternative to using swap for hibernating

You can try:
http://suspend2.net
if you're using custom kernels or
http://mhensler.de/swsusp/index_en.php
if you wish to use Fedora kernels.
suspend2 is able to use swap partitions, swapfiles and even normal files.
