Precisely. You need to download and cache the remote repository information 
already. So you already have this information.

Recall that, right now, yum already looks at Obsoletes: headers of packages 
to find out what other packages you need to upgrade, so yum already needs to 
download every package's metadata, not just the latest versions'.
