no email logs - how to check?

If you're using sendmail...

check /var/log/maillog to see if its trying to deliver any email

also check /var/spool/mqueue/ for the actual emails that haven't been sent yet.

Which logs?  Check /etc/cron.daily and run what is appropriate.
