USB automount fails

Okay. So I plugged in my USB stick to my laptop after all the latest 
updates (today) and I got this error: 
org.freedesktop.Hal.PermissionDenied. I looked in Places and it was 
there but I couldn't access it. I googled the error text and one of the 
solutions was to use system-config-services and enable the ConsoleKit 
service. I did that and did a Ctrl-Alt-Bksp (maybe not necessary) and 
now I can access the drive fine.

This kind of behavior is definitely NOT user-friendly and while it may 
be trivial for me and many subscribers of this list, the typical 
end-user would be lost.
