rdesktop and local sound, F7

When I run rdesktop, it will not bring sound to the local computer,
reporting /dev/dsp busy:

$ rdesktop  -u username -r sound:local
/dev/dsp: Device or resource busy

esd is running in the current session and nasd is enabled.

Is there a way around this?
