yum won't remove a package that it lists as present

Because this is a 'duplicate package' listed in the rpmdb.

Yum install yum-utils

package-cleanup -d    will show the duplicate listing(s)  could be more

package-cleanup --cleandupes   will fix it.

package-cleanup   by itself will display the switches.
