If you don't use nis, then it shouldn't be in there.

If you do use nis, but it doesn't provide answers for these queries,
then you don't want it listed first.

That line lists the order of what protocols to try to resolve a name.
It'll try the first, and wait for it to answer, or time out, before
trying the next.
