have to responding to my own post in order to bring my apologies. It
appears that that the probelem with the screen backlite was not caused
by the changes in xorg.conf but rather some unfortunate update which
coincided with my changes. Little bit of reading

that there is a bug in x-server and as a temporal solution is an
Option "NoPM" in ServerFlags section.
