Getting grub splash screen back

The default installation of GRUB will hide the menu. Edit (as root)  
your configuration file,

   /boot/grub/grub.conf

and remove the comment marker from the line,

   #hiddenmenu

On the next boot, the splash screen and menu will now be displayed.
