echo -n "blabla"
whoami

The -n tells echo not to add a trailing new-line.

That would be:
whoami=`whoami`
echo "blabla $whoami blabla"

Or, echo "blabla `whoami` blabla".

Or, echo "blabla $(whoami) blabla"
