Perl updates via yum

I've done the same thing without experiencing problems. 

%rpm -q perl
perl-5.8.8-26.fc7

perl -V 
Summary of my perl5 (revision 5 version 8 subversion 8) configuration:

Perhaps a reinstall of perl?

FWIW, I'm experiencing a different problem with CPAN, started without 
any obvious connection to anything, and before the update.
