Translation of the above: "Sun's Java VM does not work on Fedora 8".

If you need Sun's Java, there's a good chance that the following alternative 
will work for you:

yum install java-1.7.0-icedtea

If you need the java plugin for firefox, also:

yum install java-1.7.0-icedtea-plugin

The IcedTea Java VM is basically Sun's Java, with a small number of non-free 
portions removed. Unless you need sound, or a small handful of other 
rarely-used features, this is probably your best chance.

Really, if this works for you, great. If not, "rpm -e" is your friend, and 
you haven't really wasted a great deal of time.
