I just saw your email.
I have an external Maxtor harddisk connected to my
computer via firewire 400.
01:08.0 FireWire (IEEE 1394): Texas Instruments TSB12LV26 IEEE-1394
$ uname -a
Linux netblock-68-183-228-148.dslextreme.com 22.214.171.124-91.fc7 #1 SMP Thu
Sep 27 23:10:59 EDT 2007 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux
If I remember correctly, I unstalled a pci card
in my VA Linux 420 box, plugged the Maxtor into
the firewire and everything worked. I did this
recently - a few months ago when I still had
Fedora Core 3 still installed. Once I had the
external drive connected I installed Fedora 7.
It sounds like you are having a different problem.
