Once you have executed your java bin file and it has unpacked the files then look into directory:
path_to_java/jre1.6.0_03/plugin/i386/ns7
you should see a file called libjavaplugin_oji.so
I assume it would be something similar on the amd64 version?
If so and you want to use this in firefox then in the directory:
/usr/lib/firefox-2.0.0.5/plugins/ add a symlink to the above file keeping the name the same - when you restart firefox it will have the new jre in use which you can check with
about :plugins
This is what I do on 32 bit machines - so i guess it should work the same way on 64bit?
