Is there any way to 'force' a yum install/update?

For those times that you already have the rpm files that you need, using
rpm is much quicker.  Yum wants to download repo data, and slowly parse
your database, before doing anything.  I'll use rpm for those cases, and
if it bombs out for a dependency, then I'll use yum.

NB:  Yum's databases are about the repos, not what's installed.
